About
I am a student of systems biology, and this is my personal blog to record and share my experiences in academia. I started this blog to document my journey from leaving industry in 2008 to embark on a 4 year Ph.D at a systems biology doctoral training centre. I became interested in systems biology whilst working in my previous job. I had been involved in investigating new antimicrobial compounds in high throughput screening programs, and systems biology presented an opportunity to go about this task in a more informed manner, through understand the many complex interactions that go on inside a cell. Also, the application of computer modelling interested me as a hobbyist in computing, and the field enables the interface of biological and computer sciences for the first time.
This blog is a record of my own meanderings through the strange world that is systems biology. I hope to both document my own life in university, and my studies in academia as part of the scientific community. I’m not an expert in any of the fields discussed, and I’m learning as I go. The opinions expressed here are mine alone, and not my employer or any other 3rd party. The content should not be taken as evidence of any form of expert knowledge of the topics I write about.
This is probably the only publication I will ever write, so I hope to contribute something to the community even if I haven’t been able to achieve it through my work.
If you find anything interesting leave a comment and thanks for dropping by.
Hi Steve,
Interesting blog. I am a PhD student at University of Auckland and currently working on Systems Biology especially cell level modelling. I was curious what kind of work you are doing and if you will be interested to work on a systems biology podcast series. let me know your thoughts.

Dear Steve,
Sub:- NASA Pic.
The NASA Picture you mentioned is really strange. I was thinking that it could be because of some reflection on the lens of camera. Something may be like curvatures of bent lens of camera (Just a possibility).
I have been following you blog, as I am a die hard fan of Systems Analysis of Biological Systems and it is really good to see you blog up there inspiring to keep going !!
